Do I need a paid Adobe subscription?
No. The mobile presets work in the free Lightroom Mobile app on iPhone and Android. If you edit on a computer, the desktop presets work in Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC.
How will I get the presets?
Right after payment you can download all presets, together with a PDF with step-by-step instructions for installing them on your phone and on your computer.
Is this a copy of Tri-X or HP5?
Silver 400 is our own modern take on the look of classic 400-speed black & white films such as Kodak Tri-X and Ilford HP5. It is not a scientific film emulation and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Kodak or Ilford. Kodak, Tri-X, Ilford and HP5 are trademarks of their owners.
Why not just use the black & white button?
The button only removes colour. Silver 400 decides how each colour turns into grey (like a lens filter), shapes the contrast with a film curve and adds a fine, film-like grain, so skies, skin and shadows each get the right tone.
What kind of photos work best?
Photos with strong light and shadow: street scenes, rain, window-light portraits and harbours. For gentle portraits and weddings try Soft Portrait; for a warm antique print, Sepia.
Will my photos look exactly like the examples?
Every photo is different (light, colours, exposure), so think of a preset as the starting point. Usually a small tweak of exposure or white balance is all it takes to match the look.
What if the presets don't suit my photos?
Send us an unedited photo and we'll personally adjust the presets for you. And if you're still not happy, you get your money back within 30 days.
